Hello people of the internet, I am Wayne X and aside from audio work, I am a musician. I play multiple instruments but my main instrument is guitar. Quite often I get asked about practicing guitar, and how to keep growing my skills. The easiest way to explain this is to demonstrate techniques I focus on such as sweep picking, harmonics, the caterpillar technique, and string skipping exercises. These exercises, I admit, can get boring pretty fast. What I do to stay engaged is to learn a technique, then apply it a song I like. So I will take sweep picking and put on a song like "My Gun" by the Rubens and apply harmonics as I improv by ear. This allows me to practice with an element that is locked in to a metronome, has a key, develop my ear, and apply a new technique. How do you practice without getting bored? Let me know!
